Subject: Re: Tennis subscription
Dear Guy, Thanks for the reminder about my year's
subscription to the tennis service, expiring recently.
Also a big thank you for the opportunity of being
part of the service to begin with. It's been a lot
of fun, and the subscription more than paid for itself
several times over with my takings from the various
sports books.
Besides that, the camaraderie with the fellow punters
almost justified the subscription fee by itself! Unfortunately
I will not be able to be part of the service for the
time being. I am shortly off overseas, probably for
about a year. Although my internet arrangements are
unknown at this stage, it is unlikely I will have
regular enough access to get sufficient value out
of a sports subscription service. If when I get to
the UK this turns out not to be the case, I will give
serious consideration to joining the service again
from over there.
May I wish the very best of luck to you, Nick with
his tipping and the fellow punters with their winning.
You have all made this a very enjoyable experience
for me. And I cannot pass up the opportunity for a
huge thank you to Tony. Many superlatives have already
been given to the man on this forum, and he deserves
every one of them. Hopefully in his fully deserved
capacity of life member of the service, he can continue
to be a valuable member of the forum.
From what I have seen so far with his tipping on
this forum, and from information elsewhere on the
net, I also have every confidence in Nick's credentials
as an excellent tennis tipster and tennis connoisseur
in general. You are very lucky to have the services
of these two gentlemen, and have done very well to
secure their services. All being well, I will be delighted
to be part of the service again at some time in the
future. Until that time, I shall miss it very much!
Best wishes, Darren.
Introduction to tennis betting.
Sports betting in general is one of the best
forms of gambling to try and get a long term edge,
for several reasons.
1. There is a strong skill element, with some
punters knowing a lot more than others. The less skilful
punters subsidise the more skilful.
2. By shopping around on the internet for
the best prices you can usually get sportsbooks on
head to head events down to under 103%, making it
far better than, for example, horse racing. Sometimes
even arbitrage situations occur where the book temporarily
falls to less than 100%.
3. Doing the form on sports betting can be
very enjoyable in itself, as is watching the events.
This can be a good motivator to do the work required.
Like the other sports specifically targeted on
this site, tennis is an excellent sport on which to
launch a serious betting attack. Far more people
bet on international tennis than know anything about
it. This is partly because it has a very high television
profile and most people know the leading players very
well.
They don't however know much about the players outside
the top 20, but these lesser lights are involved in
more matches than the household names and the bookies
still take bets on them. Professional tennis bettors
exploit the lack of in depth knowledge about lower
ranked players, the effect of different court surfaces,
inside information on injuries and other factors.
In
some ways tennis betting for the average fan creates
a dangerous illusion, because their familiarity with
the Roger Federers or Guillermo Corias makes them
feel like they know what they're doing. Most don't.
Smartgambler is pleased to currently have the
services of one of the world's leading tennis betting
professionals, Nick Wheatley, who can provide you
with the information needed to profit over the long
term.

Subject: Great bet + Friday Review
Great betting opportunity:
Bet365 are offering 8/11 on Andy Roddick not serving
above 153mph (the newly set world record at Queen's
last week) during Wimbledon. The speed gun used at
Queen's is highly suspect for it's accuracy, and many
of the players commented on the fact it seemed to
be recording faster speeds than normal.
Wimbledon doesn't use the same speed gun, and although
I can't find data from last year, Roddick didn't come
close to breaking 150mph last Wimbledon, despite having
set that record at Queen's 2 weeks earlier. If the
price was widely available, I would happily advise
3 or 4 points on this bet. However, just bet365 have
the market, and they aren't the most generous with
their limits. Therefore, the bet won't be proofed,
but it looks well worth some money if you want to
have a try.
(This bet won easily. Editor.)
Headlines: Week of consolidation takes us into
Wimbledon
This weekend
Please see the Next E-mails section for the weekend
timetable. The Saturday E-mail will contain any long
term bets for Wimbledon, whilst 1st round bets will
be sent by 11am on Sunday, assuming prices are available.
As usual, don't be surprised if there is a short delay
due to the extra workload. The later E-mail on Sunday
is for any further bets. Any bets for Sunday's regular
events will be sent in the Saturday E-mail.
Betting review Nottingham:
Ferreira and Soderling set up a winning treble with
3-set victories. Both were deserved, but needed a
bit of luck at the crucial moments to get them home.
Ferreira struggled to win more comfortably most probably
because of a lack of match play in recent months.
Fully fit, I think Martin would have had a very tough
time.
Ferrer also surprised by competing more effectively
than expected on the grass. Most likely that's down
to Soderling, who can be very erratic at times, and
didn't have the best form coming into this match.
Soderling then did us no favours by beating Bjorkman
6-3 6-4. The match was far closer than the score suggests,
with just 6 points in it and a case of our man failing
on the crucial points and vice versa.
Johansson did do the business though, with a 2-set
win over Rochus.O. He made up for Bjorkman's tame
effort by fighting back to win a 2nd set he probably
should have lost, and in so doing, sparing us the
ordeal of sitting through a decider!
Hertogenbosch:
Van Scheppingen waltzed home against Acasuso to complete
the treble.
No other bets to review, but we still have Clement
and Ancic to play after their matches were posponed
today due to rain. This never does the form book any
good at all, and with Wimbledon so close, let's hope
our guys are still up for it knowing they face 2 matches
in a day if they win.
Next week preview
Most of you know how busy Grand Slams are, so expect
the usual intense 7 days or so from this weekend.
E-mail times will be around 9/10pm each day throughout
the 1st week.
Useful links for next week
For each tournament there are 2 links you may find
useful. The first is the official tournament website
which will have up-to-date info from the tournament
throughout the week. Some of these are more useful
than others, but a fair few do offer live scoring.
The 2nd link is the official order of play for events,
which allows you to check exactly when matches will
be played each day. Do remember that times on here
are local to the venue.

Example of selections mail-out
Hello everyone.
Wimbledon 2004 Last 16 bet info:
This market is exclusive to Sportingodds and Sportingbet.
However, you can still make the bet using another
method. Simply place the bet as an ongoing multiple
throughout the event.
For Day 1, back the advised players due to play as
a double (or single if only 1 is playing). Assuming
they win, take your winnings plus returned stake and
place that on the advised player(s) on Day 2. Keep
going until all players have made the 4th round or
the bet has been lost.
This method could give a better return depending
on how the draw unfolds, and may be worth considering
if best prices have been backed down.
Wimbledon Last 16 bet (Monday 12pm):
1.5 POINT TREBLE on HEWITT to REACH
THE LAST 16, GROSJEAN to REACH THE LAST 16,
and HENMAN to REACH THE LAST 16.
Best Price: 2/5+8/15+1/5 at sportingodds/sportingbet
- TAKE NOW
Wimbledon Outright (Monday 12pm): 3 POINT SINGLE
on FEDERER to WIN OUTRIGHT.
Best Price: 5/4 at bluesq - TAKE NOW
2nd Best: 6/5 at stanjames, sportingodds, totalbet,
and stanleybet - CHECK EXCHANGES
Exchanges info: Federer currently around 2.28 -
2.30 on the exchanges.
Bookmakers with prices at time of writing: All.
Advised bet analysis:
Henman has his customary easy draw, and should have
no problems making it to the 4th round.
Hewitt and Grosjean have both shown solid form in
lead-up events, and should also make it through to
the 4th round. They both have potentially tricky 3rd
round clashes, but will be heavy favourites assuming
they make light work of weak opposition beforehand.
All 3 players are also very experienced at Grand
Slam level, very comfortable on grass, and have a
good record at Wimbledon.
We also have Federer outright, despite the short
price. He is undoubtedly the biggest talent in world
tennis, and has developed an air of invincibility
on the grass having won his last 3 events on it (Halle
and Wimbledon last year, and Halle this year).
Next E-mails: Sunday 11am (DEFINATELY), Sunday
6pm (MAYBE).
All the best.
